Julie Schottland-Cox has been providing physical therapy and case management services to refugees in Greece since 2017. She is involved in researching the need for physical therapy and pain management within the refugee population, as well as advocating for that need amongst local NGOs. She has established free PT treatment centers in Athens, Lesbos and Samos and is in the process of founding a new NGO, PTs for Refugees. PTs for Refugees will create a sustainable model for continued care of the migrant population through a volunteer base of experienced PTs and mentored student experiences.
Julie completed her Master of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of California, San Francisco, in 2005 and her Advanced Orthopedic Manual Therapy Mentorship with Kaiser Permanente in 2007. She worked in hospital based outpatient orthopedic departments until 2009 when she founded her own private practice, Core Pilates and Physical Therapy, in San Francisco.
