Lisa is a chartered physiotherapist, clinician and educator with a growing interest in clinical academic research. With 15 years of experience in both public and private healthcare settings, Lisa’s experience extends across musculoskeletal, rheumatology, haematology, maxillofacial, occupational health, trauma, chronic pain and aquatic therapy services. As a clinician, she currently works as a first point practitioner in a primary care setting (First Point Physio, Mid Hampshire Healthcare) and within secondary care rehabilitation specialist services of a major trauma centre (University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust).

Lisa’s research interests include communication and clinical interactions, musculoskeletal health, back pain and improving clinical encounters to enhance self-management. Working with Professor Roberts, Lisa is currently undertaking a research project exploring the advice physiotherapists give during initial consultations with patients experiencing back pain in primary care settings. This work looks at the content of these interactions and the strategies that clinicians use to optimise engagement by providing reassurance, enhancing confidence and promoting self-management among patients to enable them to move forward with their lives. Lisa leads clinical audits, service evaluation and service development in an award-winning musculoskeletal service with a passion to understand, integrate and optimise care by improving patients’ experiences and transforming service delivery.
