Lou James (MNZM) graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy) from the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand in 1997. Lou has been teaching Physiotherapists in oncology rehabilitation since 2008. 

Lou is the Founder and Executive Director of PINC & STEEL International which provides specialised training programmes for registered physiotherapists who wish to expand their professional skills into the area of oncology rehabilitation. Lou is responsible for the introduction of the PINC & STEEL, Next Steps and PaddleOn Cancer Rehabilitation Programs, which focus on the physical and mental wellbeing of people affected by any type of cancer.  The programs are now available in 11 counties and support thousands of people each year.   Lou has been invited to work with many charities including the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, Bowel Cancer Foundation Trust, CanTeen, Look Good Feel Better and the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Foundation NZ to support a growing number of cancer survivors through cancer rehabilitation and oncology exercise services.  

Lou has been recognised for her pioneering work in this field, most recently being appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to people with cancer.
