Teaching People About Pain: Spreading Knowledge And Overcoming Barriers

Description

With the growing global pain epidemic and decreased global resources for treatment of persistent pain this session will explore Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) as a tool that helps patients to understand complex pain issues which reduces pain, disability, fear-avoidance and pain catastrophisation. The session will also analyse factors that may influence a child’s adjustment to pain and address ways to teach children about pain. Finally, E-Pain technology will be explored as a means to spread pain education in Brazil.

Objectives

  1. Understand the main concepts of PNE and its importance in clinical practice
  2. Comprehend the importance of PNE for children and the major barriers and challenges that are necessary to overcome
  3. Recognise the internet as a powerful environment to spread PNE facilitating health professionals and students and also as a population based intervention
