Physical therapy for migrant, refugee and displaced populations
Description
On average, more than 50,000 asylum applications were received across the EU each month in 2017. Data from UN studies shows that a significant number of refugees suffer from chronic illnesses such as diabetes and arthritis, physical trauma and respiratory infections. So far, there is limited evidence around physical therapy provision for migrant, refugee and displaced population. The panel will look at different aspects of physical therapy for this population and invite the audience to share their experience.
Objectives
- To introduce available evidence on physical therapy for migrant, refugee and displaced populations
- To share experiences providing physical therapy for this patient group
- To discuss challenges related to physical therapy services for this population
