Bursary programme

The World Physiotherapy board has made the decision to use £10,000 of the profit from the congress in 2019 to support a bursary programme for the online congress in 2021. The board hopes to support at least 100 physiotherapists with this gift of congress. This is part of an ongoing commitment to support diversity and inclusion by widening opportunities to participate.

Each bursary will provide a full congress registration, giving access to live and on-demand content. Consideration will also be given to supporting a data package to ensure a bursary recipient can access the online congress content during April.

When participants register for the online congress, they will also have an opportunity to make a donation to the bursary programme.

Am I eligible to make an application to the bursary programme?

A limited number of bursaries are available for physiotherapists who are members of a World Physiotherapy member organisation in a low or lower middle income country/territory. In order to apply for a bursary each candidate must:

  • be employed as a physiotherapist
  • be a member in good standing of a World Physiotherapy member organisation
  • be a national and resident of a low or lower middle income country/territory with a World Physiotherapy member organisation; these are countries/territories that pay the reduced World Physiotherapy membership fee.
  • not have previously received a World Physiotherapy congress bursary

How will the applications be assessed?

Your application must demonstrate how you will:

  • use the personal benefits for your continuing professional development
  • share the benefits with colleagues
  • use the learning and opportunities provided to support the development of the profession locally/nationally

A World Physiotherapy review panel will assess the applications and applicants will be notified of the outcome by 2 March 2021.

If my application is successful, how will I access the bursary?

Successful applicants will be sent instructions on how to register for congress and any arrangements to support a data package, where included. Bursary recipients must sign an undertaking indicating that any expenses/payments made on their behalf will be repaid if they do not take part in the World Physiotherapy Congress 2021 online.

Will I have to write a report?

Successful applicants must prepare a report on their experiences by the end of June 2021 and submit this to World Physiotherapy. A further report may be requested 12 months after the congress.  Information provided within these reports may be used by World Physiotherapy in its website, e-newsletters and other promotional media.

The World Physiotherapy decision is final.
