Mukesh Pokharel is a registered physiotherapist working at Annapurna Neurological Institute and Allied Sciences (ANIAS) in Kathmandu, Nepal. He completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Kathmandu University in 2017. He is interested in the management of low back pain. He is specifically interested in the challenges of managing severe chronic pain who present with psychosocial contributions. Mukesh uses pain (neurophysiological) education as an integral component of pain management for his patients with pain problems. This includes educating patients about their pain, teaching patients how to cope with their pain, promoting physical activities and teaching graded exercises. He is currently actively involved in research projects that involves psychosocial factors in low back pain. He has attended national and international conferences including WCPT congress 2019, and has also won best oral presentation award in the Nepal Physiotherapy Conference 2018. He has published a scoping review that explored all pain research in Nepal (https://journals.lww.com/painrpts/pages/articleviewer.aspx?year=2019&iss...) which is thought to be a helpful guide to plan future pain research in Nepal.
