Margot Skinner PHD MPHED DIPPHTY FNZCP MPNZ(HONLIFE)
Margot is the immediate past president of World Physiotherapy having been elected for a four year term that concluded at the World Congress in Geneva in 2019. Prior to that she served two terms as the Executive Member elected by the Asia Western Pacific Region. Margot has also been President of the Region and the national physiotherapy association in New Zealand. She was the inaugural chair of World Physiotherapy’s Accreditation Committee and has assisted with the development of physiotherapy programmes and national physiotherapy associations in a number of countries around the world. She is currently the lead international consultant for the ADvAncing PhysioTherapy In ViEtnam (ADAPTIVE) Project which is assisting the development of a national physiotherapy curriculum and supporting the local profession to develop competencies and standards. Margot is also an advocate for change management. At the University of Otago she has a key role in facilitating interprofessional education to ensure health professional graduates are ready to be collaborative practitioners. Besides teaching physiotherapy students she also supervises doctoral students whose research is centred around physical activity, self-management and non communicable diseases and associated conditions including cardiovascular disease and obstructive sleep apnoea.
