Dra. Fernanda Cockell
Fernanda Cockell, PT, PhD has been a physiotherapy educator for the past ten years at the Federal University of São Paulo. Fernanda focuses on the areas of worker health and collective health, in which she engages in teaching, research and outreach activities in the community of Nova Cintra, Santos city, São Paulo State. She has also engaged in the comprehensive care of informal workers and public servants. Fernanda completed a postdoctoral fellowship in sociology with an emphasis on social support networks. The current research and advocacy interest of Fernanda involve functioning (ICF), parenting techniques (babywearing use, Shantala and baby baths) and health promotion. Fernanda is one of the coordinators of the Brazilian Association of Teaching in Physical Therapy, for the São Paulo State section. She was one of the awardees of a Baoba – Fund for Racial Equity grant, to develop actions for early childhood in the context of Covid-19 through the extension project “Abrace seu mundo” (Embrace Your World). Fernanda has also been working to strengthen positive black identities and to ensure racial equity and anti-racist education in the physiotherapy profession.Recently, she has co-authored 6 book chapters.
