Dr Heather Pierce (PhD) is a Registered Midwife and physiotherapist, working in research at Western Sydney University, Australia. With over 25 years experience as a Women's Health Physiotherapist, Heather's passion for women and birth led to her undertake training as a midwife (2006-2009), whilst maintaining physiotherapy part-time. She completed Midwifery Honours (2011) with research on women's experiences of pelvic girdle pain (https://www.hindawi.com/journals/nrp/2012/387428/). Heather concurrently worked as a midwife in the same hospital that she was a physiotherapist, in the Birth Unit (5,000 births per year), and as a primary care provider in a 'Caseload' model of maternity care. She lectured undergraduate midwives (2007-2016), and was invited to write peer reviewed education for the Continence Foundation of Australia and Australian College of Midwives. Heather has six peer reviewed publications as first author from her PhD (awarded 2019). During her candidature Heather was awarded a grant from the Australian Bladder Foundation, and presented ten papers at leading national and international conferences.
